Ju 87G-2…The First flight of a Ju 87 occurred in 1936, and although obsolete by 1943, the airframe found a new lease on life with the addition of two 37 mm (1.46 in) Flak 18 guns under the wings. The first flight of the G model occurred on January 31^st, 1943. In April of '43 the first production G models were delivered to frontline units and, even though obsolete and outnumbered, proved very successful in their role as tank killers.

REVIEW: IPMS/USA Review of Academy Kit #14222 - USS Missouri BB-63

When is the last time that you really had fun building a model? Taking a cue from kits like the Bandai Gundam series that my son built several years ago, Academy, and some others manufacturers, are beginning to release kits that are molded in multi-color plastics. The benefit is that without the use of paint, and only a minimal amount of glue, a modeler can realistically create a kit beyond a simple monochromatic representation of their subject. In addition, the fit and finish of kits like this are also beyond what is found in a typical snap-tight kit. In their latest release, Academy has produced a WWII era USS Missouri that really is fun to build, and will bring the joy of modeling to anyone that is able to work with small parts.

The USS Missouri (BB-63) was the third of the four Iowa-class battleships to be constructed, but actually finishing after the USS Wisconsin (BB-64), she was technically the last battleship built for the US Navy. Ordered on 12 June 1940, the keel was laid on 5 January 1941, and she launched on 29 January 1944 at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard. The ship would take part in WWII, Korea, and Operation Desert Storm before her final retirement on 31 March 1992. The ship is now moored as a museum near the USS Arizona Memorial on Oahu as the two ships represent the beginning and ending of the Second World War.

REVIEW: IPMS/USA review of Academy's M4A3 (76)W Tank Kit

Our friends over at IPMS/USA just did a review of our M4A3 (76)W "Battle of the Bulge" kit from Academy.

Here's an excerpt:

"The M4A3 was the main medium tank used by the US Army in Europe starting in the Fall of 1944 until the end of the war. The A3 version had the Ford 8-cyclinder GAA 500 horse powered engine. The (76)W stands for the 76mm gun version with the T23 turret and the “Wet” ammo storage bins built into the floor surrounded by a jacket filled with an anti-freeze solution. This kit represents a M4A3 that would have fought during the Battle of the Bulge in mid to late December 1944.
This kits contains 10 dark green sprues which are a mixture of past Academy releases. There is a sprue from their M10, older M4s and a couple from M51 Super Shermans. There is a small photo etched sheet with the headlight, horn and taillight guards, plus some unused pieces. A length of white string is supplied for the tow cable. The decal sheet had six versions represented. Interesting, it has a Beute Panzer option for a captured tank in German Army use and some faded, worn national insignias. There are no clear parts. The tracks are molded in one piece. I had to warm them up to straighten them, since they were packed folded."

A funny short film, all about Model Railroading..

We came across this really funny short film, all about Model Railroading on Youtube.

At 19 minutes, it's a little long but if you love Model Railroading as much as we do, you'll probably get a real kick out of it.



Even though it appears to have been made during the 1970's, we noticed one of our Power supplies at 09:55 and I'm sure there's other MRC stuff hidden in there as well.

Just goes to show you that we've been at it for a long time!

Introduced: 2006 (Model Power version) and 2017 (revised MRC version)
This was the last in a line of Korean-made steam locomotives from Model Power. Said line included (along with this Mogul) a 4-6-2 Pacific, a 2-8-2 Mikado and a 4-4-0 American. These models are available in a variety of different configurations (with the detailing varying based on the prototype in question) -
• Headlight (Top or Center)
• Pilot (Foot Board or Boiler Tube)
• Cylinder Type (Slide Cylinder or Valve Cylinder)
• Cab Windows (Rectangular or Arched)
• Tender Trucks (Andrews or Arch Bar)

All of the alternate options are supplied ala carte with the undecorated units, allowing you to configure them however you like -
